Volunteer experience
Adult literacy
I volunteered in an adult literacy program at a local library helping adults learn how to read. Rather than teaching a class of students, we were assigned a student to work with. My student was a refugee from Cambodia who, at the end of our year together, had received a promotion at work because of the improvement in his reading ability.
Foster closet (Foster/kinship care servies)
This is a relatively new volunteer opportunity for me. I became involved because I am a kinship caregiver. The closet provides, among other services, immediate assistance in the form of clothing, toys, coats, beds/bedding, shoes, etc. for foster and kinship families.
